I will being going on a 24 day backpacking trip and want a camera to take pictures/video. I've heard a Go Pro might be nice but I am worried about battery life. Are there any cameras that would be suitable or maybe accessories for the Go Pro that would make it more appropriate? Of course price and quality are always important factors but I'd say I want to spend no more than $300, preferably less. Thank you very much.
A $300 budget puts you right in with a GoPro. I have the HD Hero 2 which I love. They just came out with a GoPro Hero 3 and they are even better. They are small, lightweight, and durable making them easy to carry around. The only thing about GoPro's are they don't have many customization features such as zoom, aperature, shutter speed, and ISO. You can opt for a point-and-shoot Nikon or Cannon camera. I'm sure you can find a great one for around $300. Camera technology has dramatically improved so you can get great quality photos and videos on even the budget conscious models. Whatever you decide to get, make sure to get some kind of water protection for your camera. I personally got the Cascade Design's Hummingbird case which has saved my camera a few times from water damage. Good luck in your search and happy travels!
